Tetrarch’s promo campaign behind The Ugly Side of Me is really starting to heat up. That said, one month out from the release of the nu-metal-inspired quartet’s third album, their latest preview arrives as an ice-blooded banger called “Cold.”
The new track, which follows Ugly singles “Live Not Fantasize” and “Not Again (Parasite),” finds that band bashing through a propulsive Hellbilly rhythm and gain-mangled guitars. Rhythm riffer Josh Fore, per a press release, unloads scratchy-throated vocal melodies on the topic of “self-doubt and toxic relationship cycles.”
As for lead shredder Diamond Rowe, the Jackson-backed guitarist uses her whammy pedal to screech out some “Becoming”-esque six-string sounds before going nuclear in a speed-running solo.
“‘Cold’ was one of those songs that came together pretty fast. It was one of the first songs that we wrote for the record and once we started building the textures, leads and vocals it really came to life,” she commented, adding of the track, “I feel like it’s kind of a nod to our Freak album as it has that energetic four-on-the-floor beat with glitchy and creepy guitar textures.”
As previously reported, The Ugly Side of Me was co-produced between Rowe, Fore and producer Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Archspire).
