Ghost recently unveiled their “Satanized” new vocalist Papa V Perpetua, which begs the question: What happened to the band’s Impera-era frontman, Papa Emeritus IV? Well, per the occult-rock unit’s latest lore-building “Chapter,” it turns out he’s got an office job in the Ministry, and he might not be that happy about it.
The 20th installment of Ghost’s long-running webisodes series — titled “Arrival of a Secret Agent” — introduces a new “socialist media manager” named Judith, who arrives at the Ministry and discusses the organization’s mission with a Mrs. Psaltarian. As Judith’s getting a tour of the joint, we learn that Papa Emeritus IV has been rechristened Frater Imperator. He’s been promoted to “boss” of the Ministry — though considering the fact that he used to travel around with a rock band, he certainly doesn’t see it as a step up.
Other points to note: Frater Imperator’s successor, Papa V Perpetua — who is singing on the group’s upcoming SKELETÁ album — is his fraternal twin. Their mother, former leader of the Clergy, recently passed away. Frater is apparently pretty jealous of his bro and even bristles at the sight of V-neck shirts these days.
