Coming off a pair of late 2024 comeback singles, grunge-gazing favorites Superheaven have finally unfurled the details behind their long-awaited, and much-anticipated next album. Marking their first full-length release in a decade, the band’s self-titled collection arrives later this spring, but they’re teasing it ahead of time with a melody-crushed single called “Cruel Times.”
The latest Superheaven song locks into a lean but paint-stripping groove, upon which guitarist-vocalist Taylor Madison croons optimistic lines about working past “big failures” and looking forward to the brighter days ahead (“Can’t wait for you to see what we all see now”). There likewise seems to be a meta-referential bent to the lyrics, which perhaps allude to Superheaven’s return (“We were never meant to come back.”)
You can check out the post-grunge-glazed new song up above via a music video directed by Britain Weyan. As you’ll see, Superheaven are smashing through “Cruel Times” in an opulent old house full of gear and in-miniature collectibles.
As with recent singles “Long Gone” and “Numb to What Is Real” — which will both appear on Superheaven — “Cruel Times” and the rest of the upcoming album were and engineered by Clarke and Superheaven drummer Zack Robbins. It was likewise co-produced by Will Yip (Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy).
The album, Superheaven’s first since 2015’s Ours is Chrome, is out April 18th via Blue Grape Music. Pre-orders can be found here.
