After joining up with Suicidal Tendencies earlier in the year, Jay Weinberg has officially popped into the studio to record with the veteran crossover thrashers. His debut single with ST is a re-recorded, guests-loaded take on “We Are Family” to promote the band’s upcoming Brazilian tour.
Dubbed “Nós Somos Família,” the new cut is a Portuguese-language makeover of the old Freedumb track, and the former Slipknot drummer is giving his kit a smack for his new bandmates. You can see proof of this in the music video, which integrates recent live footage with skateboard clips and more.
While founding frontman Mike Muir is in the mix, this version of “We Are Family” is also kinda like a hardcore “We Are the World,” with it explained in an Instagram message that the track features “the participation of several great friends from Brazilian Rock and Skate.
As you can see through the studio-shot footage up above, the crew of guest vocalists includes Badauí (Cpm22), João Gordo (Ratos de Porão), B Negão (Planet Hemp), Rodrigo Lima (Dead Fish), Supla, Fernanda Lima (Crypta), Sandro Dias, Milton Aguiar (Bayside Kings), Mayara Puertas (Torture Squad), Felipe Ribeiro (Treva), Pirata Homes (Anjo dos Becos), Ya Amaral (Eskrota), Júnior Bass, and Marinho.
Furthermore, full-time ST guitarists Dean Pleasants and Ben Weinman are also joined on the track by Thiago Castanho and Marcão Britto.
“Nós Somos Família” marks Weinberg’s first studio recording since joining Suicidal Tendencies this past March, and likewise since being “heartbroken and blindsided” by Slipknot’s decision to remove him from the lineup last November. Shawn “Clown” Crahan later said that the move was “nothing personal.”
Suicidal Tendencies are set to go Cyco for a five-show stretch in Brazil this week, which kicks off on July 13th. The band likewise have a series of European and U.S. festival sets scheduled over the coming months, including their appearance at Riot Fest. You’ll find all the tour details here.
