After serving up their damaging “Nostalgia Kills” with Underoath earlier this month, U.K. post-hardcore expansionists Static Dress are now moving forward with a pop-expansive yet still scream-imbued single “…hospice.”
A press release notes that the song, which appears on the upcoming injury episode LP, presents “an often unheard side to the band’s ambition” vis-à-vis an alt-pop sound that “revels in dynamism through uplifting emotion rather than jagged abrasiveness.” True, the song does have a gentle and dreamy, yet distorted jangle to it, while vocalist Olli Appleyard coos through the tune with emo sincerity. That said, the groups still manage to stick in a few panicked screams by song’s end.
As for the music video for the latest injury episode single, it’s described by the band as a “dark fantasy.” It finds Appleyard “locked in a space between the past and the present,” and bending the planes of reality. You’ll see how up above.
In conjunction with this latest release, Revolver has stocked a new exclusive vinyl variant of injury episode, on “Ice Blue & Red Half/Half w/ Black Splatter” wax and limited to 100. Snag yours at the Revolver shop.
The follow-up to 2022’s Rouge Carpet Disaster, injury episode is due out May 29th through Sumerian Records.
