Coming off a run of mega-streamed single releases throughout the past year, rising UK nu-gazers Split Chain have formally revealed the details behind their first full-length. The band’s debut album is called motionblur, and it zooms out of the ether this summer via Epitaph Records.
The group confirmed the album today (March 27th), though it turns out they’d technically teased it earlier this year when they dropped their melancholically-grooving “I’m Not Dying to Be Here” single in January — that will be the third track on the impending release.
Today, the band unleashed a bruised-violet post-hardcore anthem called “bored.tired.torn,” which vocalist Bert Martinez-Cowles says “explores the difficulty and pain of growing up in a broken childhood home.”
“Thematically the song centers on whether or not someone should have to deal with the shit they’re dealt by relatives just because they’re family. The song is a declaration against that, and tries to positively convey the message that nobody has to put up with it just because they’re share blood with the people hurting them.”
He added in a statement that motionblur, on the whole, is a reflective “record that tells you that it’s okay to be your authentic self.”
“This is the story of what we’ve been through, and this is the story of who we are today,” he said. “You either let the things you have experienced define you, or you choose a different path. You can be whoever you want to be. If there’s one thing I hope people take from the album, it’s that.”
Split Chain’s motionblur is said to be inspired by Deftones, Superheaven and Narrowhead, as well as elements of metal, grunge, emo and more. The 11-song LP is out June 11th through Epitaph Records. Pre-orders and pre-saves are up over here, while you’ll find the tracklisting details down below.
Additionally, Split Chain announced that their early run of digital-only singles is now being collected on LP as SC. 001. A pair of vinyl variants, limited to 500 copies, are available at the band’s shows, and through Other People’s Records.
