Slaughter to Prevail have quickly become one of the biggest extreme-metal bands in the world — in part because of the larger-than-life personality and daredevil antics of vocalist Alex Terrible. When he isn’t roaring, grunting and screaming into the mic, he’s often seen in Instagram videos bare-knuckle boxing or wrestling a massive bear back in his homeland of Russia. His love of bears and self-identification with bears comes into play with STP’s just-announced new album and just-released new single, titled GRIZZLY and “Russian Grizzly in America,” respectively.
The latter arrived today (April 23rd) accompanied by a hilarious music video portraying Terrible and his band pal’ing around with a towering grizzly in very mundane situations. In addition to the bear, it also stars UFC heavyweight fighter Alexander Volkov, who can be seen here punching STP’s singer in the stomach.
As for the song, it’s a groove-heavy and ferocious affair, culminating in a totally bonkers breakdown that interpolates the very-sweet-sounding old Russian song “Песенка о медведях” (“A Little Song About Bears”) into the concussive heaviness.

Terrible commented of GRIZZLY: “I think this is the best album we have ever written. We put so much effort into it. We spent a lot of time on every detail and really poured our souls into the songs. In the past, we were always rushing to finish albums and just releasing whatever we had. This time, we took our time, worked carefully on each track, and made sure everything was exactly how we wanted it. Hopefully it was all worth it.”
