Silent Planet have lit the fuse on a new charity campaign raising funds for the children of Ukraine, during the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war. The metalcore fusionists’ latest single arrives under the name “Wick.”
The track — the first new tune from Silent Planet since they delivered their Bloom in Heaven collaborative EP with Invent Animate in the spring — initially rips into a twitchy, though drum-crushing beat and effects-fizzing, ultra-chuggy riffs. But it also pivots through porous, industrialized breakbeats, moody modern metal heaviness and a micro-blast finale.
Vocalist Garrett Russell contorts himself through beastly screams and shadowy whispers as he works through a narrative set against the Black Sea. The lyrics allude to soldiers, people “borne from iron institutions,” children “waiting on the stars,” and an enduring spirit (“I won’t stop till the beast sinks into the soil”).
Silent Planet’s latest song is currently only up on Bandcamp. The charity single will be donating proceeds to Return to Childhood, an organization striving to “give Ukrainian children a childhood and education despite the ongoing Russian invasion.”
“The Youth will outlast the tyrant and the Tree of Life will devour the tyrant’s war machine,” Silent Planet added.

In other news, Silent Planet kick into a second leg of “Bloom in Heaven” tour dates with Invent Animate in late September. The fall run begins September 21st at Richmond, Virginia’s Canal Club, and the tour features fromjoy and Soulkeeper on select dates.
