Last night (July 22nd), Ghost headlined NYC’s Madison Square Garden, the World’s Most Famous Arena, a major milestone in the band’s already storied career.
The group’s new frontman Papa V Perpetua dedicated the show to “the memory of the life and laughter of Ozzy Osbourne,” who died earlier that day. Amid cheers of “Ozzy! Ozzy! Ozzy!” he said before the band kicked into the song “The Future Is a Foreign Land”: “For being the Prince of Darkness, he sure gave us a lot of light. So we’re going to tap into that and carry it forward, through a time of darkness.”
And carry it forward Ghost did, playing a joyous 22-song set full of costume changes, pyrotechnics, playful banter and satanic sing-alongs — the no-phones policy making the vibe all the more focused and magical.
