The end has just begun.
Sepultura are due to kick off their final North American tour later this year, and they’ll have new tunes for the stage along with some of their greatest hits. Today (February 26th), the metal legends unveiled a single called “The Place,” which is the first epic taste of their forthcoming EP, The Cloud of Unknowing.
The track arrived on streamers earlier today, and initially unfolds as an eerie fever dream fantasy of slow-gloom chunking, while Derrick Green howls over fractured relationships and betrayal (“Why don’t you respect me?/I deserve some dignity”). The song progressively moves towards a double-kicked mid-section, and ultimately goes ballistic for a heroically ripping thrash finale.
“What a special day. Our newest single ‘The Place’ is out today on all platforms,” drummer Greyson Nekrutman, who joined the band in 2024, revealed in an Instagram reel which seemingly teases a forthcoming, live clips-loaded music video. “To add my own contribution to the historic and monumental catalog of Sepultura is something I’ve dreamed of and today is the start of that.”
An exact ETA for The Cloud of Unknowing hasn’t been delivered by the band just yet, but vinyl copies of the EP can be copped as part of a VIP Upgrade package for their next tour. The EP follows 2020 full-length effort Quadra.
UPDATE: Sepultura have now confirmed that their 4-song The Cloud of Unknowing will be out in the wild April 24th via Nuclear Blast. The band also unveiled that previously-teased video, which you can now see up above. Green added in a statement that his lyrics concern “immigrants who have come to a place seeking refuge and start a new life,” yet find ideological complications along the way.
He added: “Once assimilated into a false sense of security and relentless propaganda they [begin] to act out against what they hate about themselves. The transition begins to escape from the self hatred and the lashing out against people who believed in the same ideas. I feel the lyrics truly follow the transitions of the song. Starting with disappointment and arriving at anger.”
As previously reported, Sepultura’s final round of North American dates begin April 29th at Montclair, New Jersey’s Wellmont Theater. The month-long trek sees them joined on the road by Exodus, Biohazard and Tribal Gaze. You’ll find the routing info here.
