Curious about what all’s to come with the release of Puscifer’s upcoming, goth-and-post-punk-inspired Normal Isn’t album? Well, the veteran outfit have now revealed the record’s third and final preview, “ImpetuoUs,” which teases a forthcoming graphic novel series dubbed Tales from the Pusciverse.
The song arrives through a visualizer drawn by Marlin Shoop and animated by Raul Araujo, which presents EC Comics-inspired illustrations of vocalist Maynard James Keenan conducting his Tales from the Pusciverse “prodcast” with high-haired, skull-holding guest Bellendia Black. Right at the top, Keenan says the show is a companion piece to a forthcoming comics project.
Keenan stumbles on how to pronounce his guest’s phallic handle, and seems thrown off by their gloomy manners. Then Black confesses that Normal Isn’t is reflective of Puscifer’s collective “despair.”
As for the track, it pulses with skeleton-rattling synth bass and a Southern Death Cult-like rumble of drums. Keenan and co-vocalist Carina Round lay down tremorous, confident lines about being fearless in a fear-stricken world (“We’re not the same”), and being “curious, dauntless, and venturous in all ways.”
“I’m looking forward to hearing where this song takes people,” Keenan said in a statement. “As the writers, we forget that in a way, we are carpenters and that we’ve been with this song since it was a pile of lumber. Our Perspective may differ from the final occupant of this space we’ve constructed. Shelter, Bridge or Gallows, Coffin? Curious to find out.”

As for Normal Isn’t, the album — which also includes previously released singles “Self Evident” and “Pendulum” — lands in full February 6th via Puscifer Entertainment/Alchemy Recordings/BMG. They launch a North American tour in March, and those tour dates can be found here.
