Puscifer have plugged another post-punky piece of their forthcoming Normal Isn’t LP. Following last week’s “Self Evident” single, Maynard James Keenan and co. have swung a synth-pulsating second preview our way: “Pendulum.”
A new music video for the song begins with an extended interview between Keenan and newly-introduced character Bellendia Black (also, we’ll note, performed by Keenan). The pair have a bit of an awkward back-and-forth discussion for the “Tales from the Pusciverse” podcast ahead of a performance vid of the new tune.
The song, which was performed last summer during Puscifer’s pair of intimate shows at Los Angeles’ Exchange venue, begins with minimal-wave expressions and low-moaned, dogma-critiquing vocal work from Keenan, but ultimately rises towards a twitchy mélange of vintage Fairlight synthesizer drones and distorted guitars.
“The dramatic and romantic nature of this track induces a sonic sense memory that transports me back to the dark and moody dance floor of Club Iguana, Austin, TX, circa 1985,” Keenan explained further in a press release. “I can almost smell the clove cigarettes.”
“Featuring Fairlight and reverb-soaked vocals, ‘Pendulum’ is a nod to the ‘80s dark underground,” adds the band’s Mat Mitchell, while vocalist Carina Round says “Pendulum” has “gorgeous synths coiling around sweet, twisted melodies while the world burns.”

As previously reported, Normal Isn’t is out February 6th via Puscifer Entertainment/Alchemy Recordings/BMG. A number of pre-orders, including a Revolver-exclusive “pearl red” vinyl variant limited to 500 worldwide, are available now in Revolver’s shop.
