West Coast devastators NAILS keep pounding through pre-release heaviness ahead of their forthcoming Every Bridge Burning album. Though the quartet’s latest single runs at a groovier pace, it’s still an utter health-hazard with a complete disregard for your state of being, which we suppose is why it’s called “Lacking the Ability to Process Empathy.”
The track is a bestial bruiser that nevertheless ratchets down the bpms from earlier teases like the d-beating “Give Me the Painkiller.” Still, slow and steady wins the race, they say, and as guitarist-vocalist Todd Jones leans into a disgustingly gutter-trilled verse about sowing the seeds of distrust and facing friends that have become rat-like adversaries, it’s clear that NAILS are primed to kick ass and take names no matter the tempo.

As previously reported, Every Bridge Burning marks a new era for Jones’ long-running metal force. The album finds him joined by a new band comprising drummer Carlos Cruz (Warbringer), bassist Andrew Solis (Despise You, Apparition) and guitarist Shelby Lermo (Ulthar).
Every Bridge Burning was produced by Converge’s Kurt Ballou at his GodCity studios in Salem, Massachusetts, and is likewise the first from NAILS since 2016’s You Will Never Be One of Us. The album arrives August 30 through Nuclear Blast.
