Hear MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE’s GERARD WAY growl on new FROZEN SOUL song

Moving from “Absolute Zero” onto perhaps the year’s most absolutely unexpected collab, Texas death-metal mavens  Frozen Soul have just unveiled a monster new tune featuring guest goblin screeches from My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.

The track is called “No Place of Warmth,” and it comes from Frozen Soul’s forthcoming full-length of the same name. The tune takes on a more sinisterly stomping pace than the recently power-smashed, 53-second “Absolute Zero.” Following a brief synth intro, Chad Green commands the mic above an ominous pall of requiem bells and funeral sod-grimy guitar riffage.

The singer noted in a statement that the song is about experiencing “life at its coldest.” He adds: “Life is always coming at you, and death doesn’t stop—you might slow it down, but it’s always coming—so you have to make the best out of it and march on.”

While Green handles the lion’s share of the lyrics, by song’s end Way jumps into the fray with supportive squealing unlike his more famously emotive MCR crooning. You’ll discover the team-up via the gothic, dagger-brandishing, blood-spewing video up above.

“We met Gerard a couple of years ago and have become friends,” Green added. “I knew he had a love for metal, so I spun the idea to him about singing in a Frozen Soul song and he was stoked! Gerard is an amazing artist and musician whose creative vision has shaped generations and more to come.”

Notably, the upcoming album’s “Invoke War” has additional vocals from Machine Head founder Robb Flynn, while ultra-jacked Sanguisugabogg frontman Devin Swank brings gutturals to the record’s “Dreadnought.”

“Anytime we have features, it’s with friends and bands that we love and respect who share the same feelings and emotion that we’re trying to get across in the song,” Green continues. “Gerard, Rob and Devin all added their own unique styles and love into the songs and really helped bring them to life. It was an absolute pleasure working with them.”

No Place of Warmth, which follows 2023’s Glacial Domination, was tracked with producer Josh Schroeder at Random Awesome Studios in Midland, Michigan. They entered the studio as a “blank slate,” and primarily wrote on-the-fly in the studio. “We took this opportunity to change and try new things– we would go into the basement of where we were staying and just write and immediately we started catching our groove,” Green contextualizes.

You’ll find the tracklisting and cover art down below, while No Place of Warmth will be out in full May 8th via Century Media.

As previously reported, Frozen Soul are heading out on tour this spring with Avatar and Fleshgod Apocalypse. You’ll find their joint tour schedule here.
