Memphis May Fire have been dropping new music for fans all throughout 2024, and now the metalcore veterans have offered up their fourth infectious single of the year. Specifically, a catchy pop-crossover cut aptly titled “Infection” has just hit streamers.
The song, premiered through the music video up above, builds up through a series of dank-and-clanky drum machine beats and Matty Mullins’ half-rapped/half-sung bars about personal deception running wild like a trojan horse virus on a mainframe.
“‘Infection’ dives deep into the pain of betrayal and the toxicity that can spread like a virus,” Mullins explained in a statement. “This song is about recognizing the destructive forces in your life, calling them out, and reclaiming your power. It’s not just about surviving the infection; it’s about emerging stronger, with the scars to prove it. This track captures the intensity of feeling used and manipulated, and the resolve to no longer be a victim to someone else’s venom.”
The track generally plays to the rock anthem side of Memphis May Fire’s style, between the pop-crunched guitar djenting and soaring clean vocals of the chorus, but the song does close out with a heavy breakdown and a series of glitch-distorted screams.
“Infection” follows the band’s “Chaotic,” “Paralyzed” and “Necessary Evil” singles. While a full-length follow-up to 2022’s Remade in Misery has yet to be announced, the band promises more new music is on the way throughout the rest of the year, and into 2025.
Memphis May Fire are also heading out on the road later this month for a North American tour alongside Asking Alexandria. The trip kicks off September 24th at Sioux Falls, South Dakota’s The District venue, and runs into early November. You’ll find the full route down below.
