A second single has now arrived to support Megadeth’s forthcoming self-titled farewell album, and they don’t care what you think about it. Or, at least, that’s kind of the premise of Dave Mustaine’s latest misanthropic missive: “I Don’t Care.”
The track follows last month’s thrash-ripping “Tipping Point” single, and had initially been teased over on Instagram with a preview that highlighted punky guitar chunking and a disdainfully finger-flipping set of lines from forever-sneering Megadeth vocalist-guitarist Mustaine (“I don’t care if I’m out of line/I don’t care ‘cause this life is mine/I don’t care if you don’t like what I say/I don’t care and I won’t obey”). Fittingly enough, they also teased the tune with artwork that featured bony mascot Vic Rattlehead just wagging his middle finger our way.
Now, Megadeth are saluting us with the rest of the caustic anthem, which you can sample at your peril via the player up above. Catch the world premiere of the song’s music video at 11 a.m. EST below.
“How many times have you wanted to say this to someone? I know you want to,” Mustaine said in a statement. “Deep down inside, f we had the balls, we would tell more people, ‘I don’t care’ more often.”
As previously reported, Megadeth’s self-titled album — and 17th overall — will be released January 23rd via BLKIIBLK. The album is confirmed to include Megadeth’s reinterpretation of Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning” — a song Mustaine had co-written with them when he was still a part of the band.
Megadeth will be touring with Iron Maiden and Anthrax next summer, with even more farewell tour dates expected to be announced soon. The farewell tour will apparently be a long goodbye, with Mustaine having recently told Kerrang! that he expects to be on the road “for another three to five years.”
