The lead-up to Orthodox’s new album, A Door Left Open, unveiled big-time hardcore collabs like their Comeback Kid-assisted “Commit to Consequence.” Turns out the Nashville, Tennessee, quintet saved a Mastodonic team-up for release day, as they’ve now premiered “One Less Body,” a crusher that ironically brings out one high-profile addition: Mastodon drummer-vocalist Brann Dailor.
A video for the song dropped today (June 6th), along with the rest of the LP. The cut jump-kicks through the speakers with a grimy metalcore groove, but then takes a few wild sojourns as it heads from tom-rumbling ambiance into a doomily crooned guest spot from Dailor.
“This track is definitely the oddball on the record,” Orthodox drummer Mike White said in a statement, adding that it was primarily crafted in the studio alongside producer Randy LeBoeuf, producer.
White continues: “Lots of ‘what if?’ riffs tossed around for this one — no rules. Brann’s vocals expand on that by adding a powerful yet atmospheric bridge unlike anything Orthodox has done before.”
As for the visual, which you can watch up above, the band and director Josh Richter teamed-up to deliver “an eerie tale of a cruising killer which was inspired by the classic ‘girl in a white dress’ video.”
A Door Left Open is out now via Century Media Records.
Orthodox will play a hometown record release show at Nashville’s Basement East venue, alongside Year of the Knife and Inclination, on June 21st. They also have a summer tour coming up with Mugshot and Omerta, and a Furnace Fest appearance in October. You’ll find those show details below.
