Linkin Park’s big reveal may have been postponed until next week, but at least Lzzy Hale has come through in the clutch with a quick piano cover of the nu-metal greats’ classic “Crawling.”
The Halestorm shredder opted to keep her guitar at bay for this tenderly intimate, eighty-eights-driven run-through of the Hybrid Theory single, which she uploaded to Instagram yesterday (August 29th). As you can hear in the post down below, she brought big-time vibrato to the late Chester Bennington’s insta-familiar chorus melody.
As previously reported, Linkin Park had sent fans into a frenzy earlier this week when they indicated that they were going to make a big announcement on their homepage. But, once their mysterious countdown clock wound to a close on Wednesday (August 28th), it then began ticking back upwards. The screen glitched as the number “09:05” crossed the screen, leading many to speculate whether the actual announcement is now set for September 5th.
Hale’s online cover has also got fans speculating on the future of Linkin Park. Earlier in the spring, Orgy vocalist Jay Gordon suggested in a podcast interview that Linkin Park were rehearsing with “a girl singer,” though he quickly retracted that statement. Then, Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee was asked in a separate interview whether she could be the rumored singer-in-question, a suggestion that she denied.
While nothing of the sort has been confirmed in regards to Linkin Park, Hale has a recent history of filling in on vocals, like when she sang lead for Skid Row this past spring. And as soon as she uploaded her piano cover, folks began commenting on the post about whether or not she was about to join up with the band.
Making matters more interesting, both Lee and Hale have collaborated onstage while covering Linkin Park songs, having performed “Heavy” together on multiple occasions. You can see some of those performances below.
