It’s kind of hard to think of Linkin Park as anything other than one of the biggest bands of the past quarter century, but the fact is they started from the bottom, and now they’re here. While that career trajectory doesn’t seem to be the focus of the nu-rock titans’ brand-new single, the song is fittingly titled “Up From the Bottom.”
As previously reported, Linkin Park began teasing the cut through their LPTV FROM ZERO series on YouTube, with one episode featuring a micro-snippet of vocalist Emily Armstrong and vocalist-guitarist Mike Shinoda working on the song in the studio.
Last week they upped the stakes with a teaser video on Instagram that paired shots of Armstrong singing in the studio (“Sometimes it feels like I’ve been barely breathing”) with what seemed like more-polished music video footage of Shinoda laying down lines with his rap-styled flow (“Everybody out, that devil is coming”).
Now that the single is out in full, we know it taps into the propulsive, pop-punk-ish and mid-tempo spirit of last year’s FROM ZERO single “The Emptiness Machine,” and likewise features piano embellishment and a bridge sporting turntables, 808 beats and more. Shinoda and Armstrong also unite for the hook (“You keep me waiting down here so far below, staring up from the bottom”).

While “Up From the Bottom” is on streamers now, it’s also been revealed that the song is due to appear on a deluxe edition of FROM ZERO, which is due out May 16th via Warner Records (you can pre-order the Deluxe LP and Deluxe CD editions at Revolver’s shop).

Linkin Park resume their FROM ZERO world tour April 26th at Austin, Texas’ Moody Center, and it stands to speculative reason that this could be the show where they give “Up From the Bottom” its live premiere.
