Lamb of God are back, and they’ve got “Sepsis.”
The Virginia-made metal icons have returned with their first original, non-collaborative song since 2022, and their “Sepsis” is a filthy tribute to their hometown metal scene.
As guitarist Mark Morton explained, the song has a heavy but nostalgic vibe, and acts as “a celebration of the very underground local bands here in Richmond that we really admired when we were just forming Burn the Priest.”
He continueed: “Bands like Breadwinner, Sliang Laos, and Ladyfinger — though they never got widespread attention outside of Richmond, those were the bands we listened to all the time. The song references that stuff in a way that’s a direct line to where we were coming from when we were in the basement writing our earliest material together.”

“Sepsis” marks the first new Lamb of God track since the release of 2022’s Omens, though the band did team-up with Mastodon last year to deliver the cross-pollinational “Floods of Triton,” and more recently issued a ripping studio cover of Black Sabbath’s “Children of the Grave.”
