Mark Morton’s new Without the Pain solo album is finally here. And while the Lamb of God guitarist had previously previewed the release through some more country-rock-leanin’ material, we now know the record’s also blazing through more metallic rockers like “Nocturnal Sun,” which features a guest spot from longtime friend and Mastodon vocalist-bassist Troy Sanders.
The tune quickly locks into a detuned and damned-chewy groove, upon which Sanders throws out his familiarly sandy howl, here detailing burning horizons, siren sounds and more. The track, which also features contributions from blues rocker Jared James Nichols, seers through the speakers from there with a gnarly, fully-screaming back-to-back solo section.
As previously reported, Morton’s collab-heavy Without the Pain likewise features team-ups with Clutch vocalist Neal Fallon, Cadillac Three’s Jaren Johnston, Grace Bowers, Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown and more.
