The rollout for Lamb of God’s upcoming 20th anniversary release of Ashes of the Wake has leveled up again.
Following the new version of “Another Nail in the Coffin” featuring guest vocals from Kublai Khan TX’s Matt Honeycutt and Malevolence’s Alex Taylor, Virginia’s finest NWOAHM gospelists have now unveiled another guest-assisted, game-changin’ redux. This time, it’s an industrialized makeover of the iconic “Laid to Rest,” courtesy of L.A. industrial unit HEALTH.
The new “Laid to Rest” messes with the formula quite a bit. Up front, we get Mark Morton and Willie Adler’s famously thrash-spiraled guitar riffs processed and regurgitated through what sounds like a broken studio plugin. Then, as the six-strings evaporate into nothingness, a slow-clank mechano-beat and ominous bass bristle beneath Randy Blythe’s insta-recognizable howl.
“When we were discussing ideas for the 20th anniversary of Ashes of the Wake, a HEALTH remix was one of the first things we thought of,” Blythe explained of the dramatic remix, which you can hear up above.
For their part, HEALTH added: “Before you get angry with us for ruining your favorite song, please try to remember that Lamb of God asked us to do this remix. Enjoy!”
As previously reported, the upcoming Ashes of the Wake anniversary edition presents the original LP along with demo cuts, live tracks, remixes and more. It arrives July 19th via Epic Records/Legacy Records.
