Greta Van Fleet guitarist Jake Kiszka is taking a beat from the Michigan-made brother band this fall to rip riffs with Mirador, the project he co-founded with Ida Mae six-stringer Chris Turpin. The band’s self-titled debut album is due out in September, but they’re previewing the platter in advance with a deep and bluesy classic rocker called “Feels Like Gold.”
Though the group got its stage-legs last year while opening on Greta Van Fleet’s “Starcatcher” tour, “Feels Like Gold” is the first studio recording from the act — which is rounded out by drummer Mikey Sorbello and bassist-keyboardist Nick Pini. Mirador’s augur-plated debut single booms through the speakers with D-tuned, hellhound-trailing rock riffage — the veritable chime of well-worn Gibson guitars diming themselves through crisp, but collosal-sounding vintage amps.
Kiszka and Turpin are likewise sharing vocal duties, and its explained in a press statement that the yearning, vibrato-driven lyrics to “Feels Like Gold” are “set against the backdrop of conquest and imperialism, in an era marked by global friction and war.
“The song weaves together themes of cultural collision, the relentless pursuit of riches, and the complexities of history,” they added. “Yet, amidst the darkness of war and dogged determination for expansion, it offers a message of hope for a unified world and an understanding beyond violence.”

Kiszka and Turpin met in 2018, and developed a friendship as Greta Van Fleet and Ida Mae began touring together. While Kiszka describes the Mirador experience as “two guitar players from notable groups coming together to create a new mythology,” he also notes that writing with Turptin revealed an intrinsic, familial bond to him. He now described his Mirador co-founder as his “long lost brother.”
“After we wrote those songs, I realized we had a chemistry I’d never had with anybody but my own brothers,” Kiszka says. “It was obvious we needed to do this.”
Mirador was produced at a Savannah, GA studio with Grammy Award-winning boardsmith Dave Cobb (Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, Halestorm), and was cut live off-the-floor across a two-week stretch.
