Former I Prevail vocalist Brian Burkheiser has launched a new solo venture dubbed Scatterbrain, and is kicking off this next phase with a heavy revamp of Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.”
As previously reported, it was revealed last May that Burkheiser — who had sung cleans for I Prevail for 10 years — had split from his longtime band.
With his first single as Scatterbrain, he’s upped the distortion and added screams to the T-Swift original, and fit it with a music video that finds him rising from the grave as a metalcore ghoul.
Later, the singer is tracking vocals at the studio, walking awards show red carpets and rocking a giant festival crowd with a backup band full of faceless, exposed-brain musicians. It all comes to a close with a series of breathtaking scenes and a return to the graveyard. Per the cover, “The old Brian can’t come to the phone right now…because he’s dead.”
“This year forced me to pivot in ways I never expected, and it tested me more than I can explain. But through it all, your support has meant everything,” he explains in a press statement, adding of adapting the pop song, “I chose this cover because it truly resonates with me and serves as a nod to what first sparked my career.”

Of the future of Scatterbrain, Burkheiser continues: “I’m still working toward the day I can release my original music, but for now, I’m grateful to have found a way to put a piece of art into the world.”
