If you thought Escuela Grind made an awesomely, ungodly racket before, check the New England extremists’ latest brutalizing Dreams on Algorithms single. That’s because the band have just powerslammed an institutions-critiquing metal missive called “Concept of God” our way.
The band’s third single from their upcoming full-length runs through various panic blasts, thrash-gonzo pivots and ultra-grody sludge breakdowns. Through all that, vocalist Katerina Economou runs her throat into overdrive while contemplating the irony of people coming together in the name of God, but simultaneously locking out folks that don’t follow the hivemind (“Joy association while exclusion defines prisoners”).
“‘Concept of God’ is about the chaos that ensues when humans come together; the good and bad things that happen when opposites and like-minded individuals attract,” the band shared in a group statement. “The main lyrics in the song are, ‘the concept of god only exists because of people.’”
As for the video, directed by Seby X Martinez for Negative Kitty (Body Count), it finds Escuela Grind raging through the track within an abandoned and grime-infested soup kitchen—which maybe explains the food-prep-ready black rubber gloves Katerina Economou’s got on to grip that mic. Sounds like guitarist Kris Morash’s riffs could be channeling the prime beef likely swingin’ in a nearby meat locker, too.
