Y’all ready to have some fun with Drain? Because the Santa Cruz, California, crossover crew are looking to pal around with people with their latest and decidedly poppy new …IS YOUR FRIEND preview, “Who’s Having Fun?”
The song, the third single to arrive behind the band’s forthcoming third full-length, eases back on the mosh-forward hardcore style of the band. That said, between vocalist Sammy Ciaramitaro’s smoother, un-screamed approach through most of the song, and the power-chord-playful nature of the tune, it feels like Drain may be building on the momentum of their Descendents cover from 2023’s Living Proof. Guitarist Cody Chavez nevertheless shreds his way through a tap-happy solo.
The poppy yet still punky cut is also fit with a NorCal-celebrating set of visuals that find the band chunking through riffs in the forest and smashing through beats atop scenic, oceanside vistas.
“‘Who’s Having Fun?’ is summertime music written to be played really loud in the car with your friends and the windows down on a beautiful sunny day” Ciaramitaro explained of the song. “It’s what happens when you just write music that makes you feel happy and don’t really care about fitting into a box or meeting someone else’s genre criteria.”
He continued: “Drain is gonna do whatever the hell we want. This was the first song that we wrote for this album — it started out as a pretty barebones punk-rock song, but we kept adding little moments and flare and all the sudden we turned it into a badass song that truly encapsulates everything that Drain is.”
As previously reported, …IS YOUR FRIEND was recorded live in the studio with producer Jon Markson (The Story So Far, Drug Church, One Step Closer). The record arrives November 7th via Epitaph, and a pre-order on exclusive “patina rust splash” vinyl is currently up in Revolver’s shop.
Drain also have a handful of upcoming U.S. fest appearances and bunch of tour dates on the horizon with Kublai Khan TX. Those date details can be found here.
