Hear DEFTONES’ fiery new song “milk of the madonna”

Deftones have made more private music public.

Coming hot on the heels of last month’s stunning “my mind is a mountain,” the revered alt-metal institution’s latest single is called “milk of the madonna” but it seethes and burns like the flames evoked in the lyrics of the chorus. “Holy ghost/I’m on fire,” Chino Moreno sings, while conjuring apocalyptic visions of bloody rain and quaking winds in the verses. Both songs appear on Deftones’ forthcoming album, private music, the follow-up to 2020’s Ohms, which was recorded with producer Nick Raskulinecz. Last year, guitarist Carpenter explained that the new material “sounds like a continuation of Ohms and Koi [No Yokan].”

private music is due out August 22nd via Reprise/Warner Music. That same day, Deftones will kick off the second leg of their 2025 North American tour at Vancouver, BC’s Rogers Arena. The headlining run finds the band joined by Phantogram, IDLES and Barbarians of California on select dates, though Deftones also splinter off from their own trip to support System Of A Down at a pair of gigs in Toronto, Ontario, in early September. Then in November, the band will throw their sixth annual Dia De Los Deftones festival with Clipse, Deafheaven, 2hollis, Rico Nasty, Glare and more.

You can pre-order private music on limited-edition clear vinyl, as well as CD and cassette, at Revolver’s shop.
