Bludgeoned by Deformity — a new death-metal supergroup from members of Pig Destroyer, Sanguisugabogg, Jivebomb and more — have smashed out their fetid first single. Set to preview a punishing debut EP titled Epoch of Immortality, the quintet’s introductory opus is called “False Deliverance.”
A press release confirms that Bludgeoned by Deformity came together in 2024, and is steered by vocalist Devin Swank (Sanguisugabogg), bassist Ethan Buttery (Jivebomb, Sinister Feeling), drummer Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Misery Index, End Reign, Scour), and guitarists Bradon Studebaker (Immortal Torment, ex-Rejoice) and Andre Pickens (Tsuris).
“False Deliverance” is a grotesquely grooving assault full of seasick guitar noodling, noise-chord-crunching moshes, cannon-fire kick work and demonic brees-and-barks from Swank.
“This song is about hypocrisy displayed by Christians when they force their beliefs on others when they are pieces of shit themselves behind the curtain,” the band explained in a joint statement of its lyrics.
The track, and indeed the full EP, was apparently inspired by East Coast death-metal acts including Pyrexia, Internal Bleeding, Eternal Suffering and Scattered Remnants. That all tracks, as “False Deliverance” also features a guest solo from Pyrexia’s Chris Basile.
Studebaker and Swank wrote Epoch of Immorality together before they recruited the rest of the band. Their debut EP was recorded in August of 2024. Drums and guitars were tracked by Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations, while the vocals were recorded by Josh Nunn at Daily Grind Productions, and the bass was self-recorded by Studebaker.
The record also features a guest spot from Waking The Cadaver vocalist Don Campan on “Extirpated Human Existence.”
