Life is transitory and ephemeral. Or, as AOR-era rockers Kansas famously put it back in the Seventies, “All we are is dust in the wind.” Nearly 50 years later, Corey Taylor and metalcore experimentalists Bad Omens have re-upped the message with a tender-and-airy cover of the group’s “Dust in the Wind.”
Taylor and Bad Omens’ redux of the 1977 single is being delivered as part of the soundtrack for upcoming wrestling biopic Queen of the Ring — which chronicles the career of trailblazing, three-time women’s world champion Mildred Burke, who began grappling at carnivals in the Thirties before hitting the pro circuit.
As for the cover, Taylor and Bad Omens aren’t bodyslamming the arrangement with a metal-style makeover, but rather finesse Kansas’ original approach with echo-heavy acoustic guitars, slide guitar, fiddle and more. Taylor takes on the early verse, while Bad Omens’ Noah Sebastian softly contributes solo vocal sections of his own.
While the full soundtrack for Queen of the Ring won’t be released by Sumerian Records until March 7th, you can check out the Kansas cover now. Press play up above, close your eyes and savor the moment.
As for the film, which was written and directed by Sumerian head Ash Avildsen, it stars Emily Bett Rickards (Arrow) as Burke, and also features castmates Josh Lucas, Walton Goggins, Gavin Casalegno, Tyler Posey, and Deborah Ann Woll. The film also features wrestling figures Kamille, Toni Storm, Trinity Fatu, and Jim Cornette.
