Spring has sprung, the flowers are out, and — per Converge — the doom is in bloom.
To promote the upcoming Hum of Hurt, the Massachusetts hardcore icons’ impending and second album of 2026, Converge have unleashed a video for a devastating pound-out they call “Doom in Bloom.”
As previously reported, the group recorded both Hum of Hurt and this past February’s Love Is Not Enough LP at the same time, with vocalist Jacob Bannon having described the upcoming entry as more of an “emotional hardcore album, “ compared to Love’s metal edge.
It’s a slower, yet still spiky and staccato groove tune, guitarist Kurt Ballou’s guitar lines and stretches of reckless feedback spindling through a three-quarter stomp from Ben Koller. Bannon is incensed as ever, the vocalist explaining in a statement that the song is somewhat about “how my own middle-aged introspection doesn’t always bring a brighter light.”
“It’s dark and pointed right at you,” he says. “I see my own trappings reflected in those around me. Here I am imploring them to slip the noose to see another day.”
