Progressive metalcore veterans Between the Buried and Me have unearthed an energized, glucose-spiking cover of the Smashing Pumpkins’ Melon Collie-era track “Jellybelly” for an upcoming tribute album to the Chicago alt-rock greats.
The cover is part of the impending Sending Hearts to All My Dearies tribute, which had previously been teased by Tame Impala’s take on “Hummer,” a chopped-and-screwed and chains-jangling version of “Drown” from Alice Glass” and a teeth-gnashing version of “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” from Palaye Royale.
Now, BTBAM get their hands dirty dishing out the song’s famously percussively-panicked drum rolls and fuzz-fiery guitar licks, but with a gonzo twist. They turn the tune into a fully speed-galloped, double-kicked rager replete with grizzly growls. There is a galaxy-crossing reprieve of mellotron-esque tones and soft-mewled vocals, but BTBAM quickly up the ante on “Jellybelly” with progressive blasts, tandem arpeggiation and bleghs aplenty.

Sending Hearts to All My Dearies is out August 14th via Sumerian Records. The tribute album also features revamped Pumpkins tracks from the likes of Nita Straus, Carpenter Brut and more. A pre-order for the double LP on “Baby Blue and Green” vinyl is available now in Revolver’s shop.
