Beartooth brought a new tune titled “Free” to the stage earlier this week, while out on tour with Bad Omens. If you haven’t caught it up close, fear not: Caleb Shomo and his long-running band have surged the single onto streamers.
The song marks Beartooth’s first release through new label home Fearless Records, and it was co-written and co-produced between the band and former Bring Me the Horizon member Jordan Fish. Shomo describes “Free” as “the next chapter of my music and my life.”
“Free” ushers itself in with gently fingered guitars, finger-snaps and a vibrato-quivering Shomo coming towards an emotional crossroads (“Am I really lonely? Or am I the reason I’m alone?”). The song bustles into bright, distorted hooks and a few big screams as Shomo puts his best foot forward with “every single fucked up of piece of me”.
“The emotional roller coaster that is living can be very complicated at times,” he said in a statement. “In one day you can equally experience pure fear and pure joy. This song shows a glimpse of what is to come from the next Beartooth album, which is the most honest depiction of my soul I will most likely ever make.”
“Free” is on streamers now via Fearless, and can also be seen up above in the new reflective music video directed by Meg Gamez.
Beartooth had premiered the song live last Sunday (February 22nd) at Salt Lake City, Utah’s Delta Center during the first show of Bad Omens’ “DO YOU FEEL LOVE” North American tour. Their next date together is tomorrow (February 28th) at Detroit, Michigan’s Little Caesars Arena.
