We felt a lot of love for Bad Omens’ recent “Specter” single, which hit No. 1 on the Hard Rock charts and stands as one of Revolver’s favorite tracks of the year so far. The heavy-music breakthrough stars now continue their dark legacy with the release of their latest single, “Impose.”
As with last month’s “Specter,” Bad Omens teased the new tune with some mystery-building socials teasers. A mini-vid didn’t keep up the haunting therapy session theme of the “Specter” rollout, but instead featured footage of a woman smoking by herself in a shadowy stairwell, as a Slovenian monologue plays overtop.
Per fan translations in the comments, it begins: “When I fall asleep, I run away, but without you. You’re still in dreams, but not mine.”
Now, we see that this is attached to the new music video for “Impose,” which was co-directed by Bad Omens bandleader Noah Sebastian and Nico. A press release explains that the narrative presents “a disorienting romantic all-nighter after a chance encounter at a nightclub,” and likewise concerns “a woman stuck in a cycle of fast living” and a “man merely a bystander to her unraveling.”
Sonically, Bad Omens’ latest track begins with moody piano tones, intertwines atmospheric electronic flourishes, and is anchored by an intensely emotional vocal performance from Sebastian.
As previously reported, Bad Omens are slated to hit two North American fests this fall: Louisville, Kentucky’s Louder Than Life event, and Sacramento, California’s Aftershock Festival. A European tour follows in November, and you’ll find those overseas date details over here.
