Arch Enemy are set to wake you the fuck up through the launch of their first new music since 2022. For proof, check the extreme metal greats‘ just-released single, “Dream Stealer.”
The song follows Arch Enemy’s Deceivers album, and keeps pace with their patented blend of double-barreled kicking, scythe-sharp guitar stabbing from Michael Amott, thrashed-up melodies, and a mix of shrieks and power-crooned heaviness from vocalist Alissa White-Gluz.
Thematically, the track concerns someone creepin’ and crawlin’ through our subconscious thoughts to turn them into nightmare fuel. Worse yet, we’re probably just inflecting that damage internally through our “shadow self.”
The music video, which you can see up above, is full of nocturnal whimsy, flitting between performance footage and a surrealist, CGI-indebted smorgasbord of blazing homes, haunted house walkthroughs, and cemetery-set scenes.
“First new Arch Enemy song we release in a little while and it feels good to be back,” Amott said in a statement of the track, which was mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios.
“It was a blast working on ‘Dream Stealer’ in the studio, this song just has the high energy and twisted atmosphere that makes it so fun to play! Crank it up, loud and heavy! Metal is immortal!”
It’s as-yet-unclear if “Dream Stealer” is part of an upcoming full-length follow-up to Deceivers, or if it’s a standalone single.
However, Arch Enemy do have plans to tour Europe and Mexico in the fall. You’ll find more date details here.
