Hear ANGEL DU$T channel STONE TEMPLE PILOTS on new song “I’m the Outside”

Angel Du$t are mixing some classic Nineties alt-rock vibes into their pop-forward hardcore sound with the latest preview of their forthcoming Cold 2 the Touch LP. Specifically, they feel they’ve colored the margins with a shade a Stone Temple Pilots-esque purple for new tune “I’m the Outside.”

Vocalist Justice Tripp explained as much earlier today (January 8th) in an Instagram post, noting that guitarist Steve Marino came at his bandmates with an STP-styled riff that wowed Tripp, and proved to be a connection point for some riffs he’d been hanging onto, too.

“I’m the outside’ is the last song we wrote and coincidentally became my favorite song on the album,” Tripp wrote on IG. “The day before we started tracking, [Marino] showed me this bad ass ‘stone temple pilots riff’ and I was like, ‘man that feels cool with this verse I wrote a while back.’ Salad Days Studio knew exactly where we were coming from and articulated the song in a way that nobody else could.”

The song mixes a crunching, pop-punk-ish verse seemingly about talking to Jesus on the telephone with a musically moshable back-end that has Tripp getting his inner Weiland on vis-à-vis a thick cloud of layered harmony.

The video features footage of the band playing the tune at an Elmo-inhabited children’s amusement park before taking a topsy-turvy joyride together (the latter scenes kinda conjuring Blind  Melon’s “Galaxie” video).

Tripp add that the whole package, which you can peep up above, “makes me want to bounce for joy and beat someone’s ass in a mosh pit.”

As previously reported, Cold 2 the Touch follows 2023’s BRAND NEW SOUL, and was recorded with Brian McTernan (Turnstile, Balance & Composure, Bane, Converge).

It’s their first full-length to feature drummer Nick Lewis and guitarist Jim Carroll (American Nightmare, the Hope Conspiracy) in the lineup, and it likewise features guest appearances from Scott Vogel (Terror), Wes Eisold (American Nightmare, Cold Cave), Patrick Cozens (Restraining Order) Frank Carter, and Taylor Young (Twitching Tongues, Deadbody).

The album is out February 13th via Run for Cover Records. Pre-orders can be found over here.
