Amon Amarth have unveiled a galloping new anthem to plug their forthcoming The Allfather Awakens, and it’s a shout-out to Odin’s horse. A dust-kicking rumble about riding your favorite steed, the song is called “Eight Legs of Thunder.”
The new single follows their recent Viking-metal horn-raiser “Gjallarhorn,” as well as gruffly-sung acoustic outing “Upphaf.” Like many Amon songs, the narrative is steeped in Norse Mythology, this time honoring Sleipnir, the Allfather’s trusted eight-legged speed-breaker.
The song fittingly takes on a metallic gallop as vocalist Johan Hegg growls out lines about strapping oneself to “an unstoppable force” and diving headway into various glorious battles.
The video crosses Norse legend with a western aesthetic. Amon play a band of ranchers retelling myths while drinking moonshine in the horse stables. Somehow, they meet up with some hazmat suited juice dealers, and the group shoot their horse up with a lime green serum ahead of a race.
“With ‘Eight Legs of Thunder’, together with the band, we wanted to break the traditional metal music video mold once again. We fused the raw, dusty vibe of a modern western with the epic, dark mythology of Oden’s eight-legged steed,” director Dariusz Szermanowicz explains in a statement.
“It’s a high-octane, cinematic ride packed with cowboy tension, raw action, and a touch of dark humor. We didn’t just want to make a music video—we wanted to deliver a visual knockout.”
