The summer presses on, and Coheed and Cambria are increasing the heat with a good-vibed revamp of their recent The Father of Make Believe song “Goodbye, Sunshine” — one that features production work from Dub music royal the Scientist, and a guest vocal spot from 311’s Nick Hexum.
The re-arranged ray of “Sunshine” swaps out the original’s pop-metal chunkiness in favor of a rocksteady rhythm and bright brass accoutrement. Hexum mostly plays a harmonious supporting role on the cut — he plays his part, if you will — though he does take over the mic a little later into the song.
“The arrangement was born out of a Chicago Q101 Pop-Up stripped down radio performance,” guitarist-vocalist Claudio Sanchez explains of the redux in a statement. “We enjoyed the version so much, we chose to explore it further by enlisting the help of 311’s Nick Hexum and dub producer The Scientist.”
The “Endless Summer” version of “Goodbye, Sunshine” was co-produced alongside King Tubby protege The Scientist, as well as Zakk Cervini and Julian Gargiulo. An additional reverb-clacking Dub Mix produced and mixed by The Scientist has also hit streamers.
A tiki-drink-clinking, perspective-warping music video has also been unveiled behind “Goodbye, Sunshine (Endless Summer),” of which Sanchez added: “It plays within the concept of the alternate realities we explored in our previous videos for our new album, The Father of Make Believe, while paying homage to one of our earliest videos, ‘A Favor House Atlantic,’ with some inspiration from the 1986 Harold Ramis comedy film, Club Paradise.”
