Halsey has fallen into their nu-metal phase.
While the pop singer has long been vocal of their love of heavy music — having collab’d with the likes of Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Bring Me the Horizon and more — Halsey has turned to another icon for inspiration on the promo run to the forthcoming The Great Impersonator album. Specifically, a new Instagram teaser vid has the artist channeling the look of Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee.
A quick video finds Halsey recreating the visual aesthetic of the album cover to Evanescence’s breakthrough Fallen album from 2003, which presented a close-up of Lee’s face. As such, Halsey’s donning a long, raven-black wig and a double-spike eyebrow piercing, while the color-grading of the vid takes on a similar bleached-out blue hue.
The post is dedicated to Lee, Halsey’s “OG dark rock queen,” while it’s also scored with a preview of a gothically distorted new Halsey tune called “Lonely is the Muse.”
Lee clearly approves, having dropped the following reply in the comments: “High compliment coming from you, my dear!”
Lee is not the only music icon to be toasted through Halsey’s current promo campaign, with the performer also recreating looks from Kate Bush, David Bowie, PJ Harvey, Dolly Parton, Cher, and the Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan. Halsey’s The Great Impersonator is out October 25th via Columbia Records.
