We already knew alt-pop singer Halsey was a big fan of heavy music — having collab’d with Nine Inch Nails and Bring Me the Horizon and more recently cosplaying as Evanescence’s Amy Lee to promote last year’s The Great Impersonator album. But her ties to the hardcore scene also apparently run extra deep, with Halsey telling a fan recently that she used to book shows when she was growing up in New Jersey.
A fan interaction at a meet-and-greet was recently posted online, and while the start of the line of questioning is unfortunately not part of the clip, Halsey’s answer is clear: “I super fuck with hardcore.” She then went on to talk about her time as a teenaged show promoter.
“I used to promote hardcore shows. In Jersey before I started making music,” she explained, later thanking the interviewer for the question. “I did a lot of hardcore, but then also some of the more commercial hardcore. The biggest show I ever booked — I was 16 — was like August Burns Red and the Devil Wears Prada.”
She quickly followed up this tidbit with a note that her senior yearbook quote was a line from a song by Boston melodic hardcore band Defeater, though she didn’t namedrop which track that was in particular.
After the clip was posted to TikTok, Halsey again showed her appreciation for the hardcore Q&A by commenting on the post: “This was a really cool moment in my day that day…thank you so much.”
