While Glenn Danzig is all set to hit the West Coast this spring for a rare run of shows with his eponymous band, a recent interview on the Full Metal Jackie radio show found the iconic metal vocalist wondering aloud whether his album-making days are numbered. He even questioned whether he’s “ever gonna record again.”
The interview began by promoting the tour — which kicks off in March, and features support from Down, Abbath and Cro-Mags — but eventually the talk drifted towards the possibility of hearing new Danzig songs sometime in the future. It has, after all, been close to eight years since the band dropped their last album of original material: 2017’s Black Laden Crown (though an album of Elvis covers arrived in 2020).
Alas, Danzig quashed those hopes pretty quick, citing streaming and piracy as the major reason.
“The whole music thing and recording and everything, it’s just changed dramatically where people really don’t buy physical product anymore,” he said. “They just wanna download it for free online. So there’s really no incentive to new music, unless I’m in the studio and I do something and I wanna give it away for free to everybody. I don’t know if that’s a great business model.
“I don’t see the music industry changing at all. So, I don’t know if I’m ever gonna record again, at least Danzig stuff,” he continued. “Maybe at some point. I don’t know right now.”
Danzig also noted in the interview that he’s not that excited about touring these days either. He’s game for short road trips like the upcoming six-show stretch, but he’s apparently put multi-month treks behind him. For this decision, he pointed to the rising cost of pretty much everything, as well as the fact that “no one loves being in a van with a bunch of other people and a limited amount of space.”
Despite all this, Evil Elvis’ upcoming tour is set to start March 21st at Las Vegas, Nevada’s Virgin Theater. You’ll find the full run of dates down below.
