Witness the dawn of a new prosperity: Ghost’s latest album, SKELETÁ, has become the first rock album to top the Billboard 200 album charts since 2020, and has likewise cleared more than 86,000 copies sold in its first week of release.
A press release confirms that SKELETÁ, the group’s first album to feature frontman Papa V Perpetua, is currently the biggest-selling album in the U.S., and the full-length is the first rock album to top the 200 since AC/DC’s Power Up came out at the tail end of 2020.
SKELETÁ likewise shot to the top of Billboard’s U.S. Album, Vinyl Album, Indie Store Album, Independent Album, Rock Album, Rock and Alternative Album, and Hard Rock Album charts.
Internationally, it’s currently sitting at #1 in Ghost’s native Sweden, as well as on the album charts in Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Finland. Notable, it’s also #2 in the UK.
Between its digital and physical sales, SKELETÁ also outperformed the first-week numbers of Ghost’s previous LP, Impera, which had topped out at 76,000 copies sold. All told, Papa V Perpetua and the Ghouls are hitting new heights through this latest era.
As previously reported, the pre-release push behind SKELETÁ included single drops for “Satanized,” “Lachryma” and the record’s opening “Peacefield.”
While dozens of thousands of fans are currently spinning SKELETÁ on repeat, the band are likewise deep into their world tour. Ghost resume their trip May 7th at Berlin, Germany’s Uber Arena, while a U.S. leg of dates launches in the summer.
