Ghost may be in their stellar SKELETÁ era, but the occult-rock greats aren’t opposed to digging out the deep cuts to please the faithful. As such, they’ve just given their old cover of UK duo Pet Shop Boys’ “It’s a Sin” a wide-release on streamers.
The track had initially been recorded during Ghost’s Prequelle period, with the song first appearing on both a limited-edition 7-inch and a deluxe edition CD back in 2018. Their dramatically rock-glazed, choir-assisted revamp on the sinful synth-pop anthem has now been re-upped and re-released on streamers, as well as through a playfully old-school lyric vid seemingly put together through an ancient version of Windows.
If you’re curious as to how the re-release fits into the overall Ghost saga, the latest dramatic Chapter finds former frontman Frater Imperator (once known as Papa Emeritus IV, and before that as Cardinal Copia) performing some digital subterfuge to thumb his nose at the band’s current vocalist, Papa V Perpetua.
The vid, which you’ll find below, finds Frater ixnaying the possibility of an upcoming covers EP from the current lineup, and then, after realizing he has access to the archive, he sneakily starts uploading oldies from his Cardi days.
As previously reported, the V-led Ghost resume their SKELETÁ tour next week. A new North American leg of daters begins January 21st at the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida. You’ll find all the rest of their upcoming schedule here.
