Bill Crook, the Canadian metal and hardcore bassist who’d previously performed with Spiritbox, has passed away. The sad news was confirmed today (July 24th) in an Instagram post from Kai Turmann, who had previously played with Crook in Vancouver, B.C.-based mathcore group A Textbook Tragedy.
“I’m so profoundly sad to say that our dear friend Bill Crook has passed away,” Turmann wrote. “He was a friend to so many, and a dear friend to me since we were children.”
Over the years, Crook’s bass playing had been featured on recordings from A Textbook Tragedy and Vancouver pop-punk unit Living with Lions. He’d also contributed back-up vocals on songs from Comeback Kid and Misery Signals. He became Spiritbox’s live bassist from 2018 to 2022, and contributed vocals to the band’s breakout 2021 album, Eternal Blue.
Most recently, Crook had been working on new music with producer and Underoath drummer-vocalist Aaron Gillespie, last posting an Instagram video update of their time in the studio on July 7th.
