FIT FOR A KING announce new album with raging title track “Lonely God”

What’s a king to a god? That’s a question Texas metalcore titans Fit for a King are seemingly chewing on through their heavy-as-hell new single, “Lonely God” — which is likewise the title track of their newly-announced eighth album.

The track begins with high tension industrialized ambiance before ripping into a low-tuned, percussive brutalism. Above all that, Fit for a King lay it out that everything’s gone to hell around us (“The world’s on fire and it’s ticking like a timebomb”). The apocalyptic vibes continue through allusions to rivers running red with blood, and a “never-ending hatred” that has grabbed a hold of us all.

“In general, ‘Lonely God’ relates to the pursuit of power,” vocalist Ryan Kirby said of the song’s larger themes. “They’re trading companionship, relationships and love for power and money. You may have all of the power and be a ‘God,’ but it’s a lonely spot because the world despises you.”

As for the rest of Lonely God, the record was cut in Los Angeles with producer Daniel Braunstein (Spiritbox) and is said to have been written with “no agendas” other than pleasing the core quintet of FFAK.

“All five of us have our fingerprints on this album,” Kirby noted. “We found a way to balance our voices. We’ve always been genuine with the lyrics, and that’s the case again. There’s so much heart behind all of the instrumentation too. There’s definitely a lot of growth because our bond is tighter than ever.”

In addition to the newly premiered title track, Lonely God also features spring single “No Tomorrow,” last year’s “TECHNIUM” and “Keeping Secrets” singles, and new collabs with Motionless in White’s Chris Motionless (“Witness the End”) and Alpha Wolf’s Lochie Keogh (“Monolith”).

Lonely God touches down August 1st via Solid State Records. You can pre-order it on exclusive, limited-edition colored vinyl at Revolver’s shop.
