Symphonic black metal mainstays Dimmu Borgir launched their first North American tour in eight years over the weekend, bringing a New York City crowd the stage debuts of several new songs from the band’s recent Grand Serpent Rising album.
The Friday night (August 7th) performance at Palladium Times Square began with Grand Serpent Rising’s “Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel” single, and likewise featured the first-ever live performances of that album’s “As Seen in the Unseen” and “Ascent”. The night likewise ran through the rest of the Norwegian outfit’s towering catalogue, re-exhibiting fan-favorites like
Enthrone Darkness Triumphant’s “Mourning Palace”, and drawing things as far back as the title track to 1996’s Stormblåst.
