Last night (November 2nd), Deftones drove into a setlist of big hits and deep cuts for the headlining set of their fifth annual Dia de los Deftones.
As in years past, the festival took place at San Diego, California’s Petco Park, and the Deftones’ handpicked the lineup, which, this time, included IDLES, Sunny Day Real Estate, HEALTH, Duster, GEL and more to provide opening sets. But of course, the biggest draw for the event was the hosts themselves, and damned if they didn’t deliver across their 20-song performance.
Previous installments of Dia de los Deftones found the band mixing their most-well-known songs with a smattering of rarities and even live debuts. Accordingly, Chino Moreno and Co. used their time up onstage to revive rarely heard cuts like “Lhabia,” “Beauty School” and “Hexagram” (all played for the first time since 2018) while also putting the shine on their cover of Japan’s “Ghosts” in a live environment for the very first time.
Among such surprises, Deftones also delivered big-time crowd-pleasers included eternal White Pony anthem “Change (In the House of Flies),” raw and hazy Around the Fur groove “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)”, and more recent faves like Ohms’ “Genesis.”

As previously reported, Deftones have also booked a hefty North American tour for 2025 that will see the alt-metal giants hitting arenas alongside the Mars Volta and Fleshwater. You’ll find all of the date details here.
