Slipknot are no strangers to costume changes, so it’s only natural to learn Corey Taylor has once again tweaked his onstage wear. Specifically, he revealed an eyes-glowing mask modification in South America over the weekend
Earlier this year, Slipknot unveiled their newest round of masks, which were of course modeled after the wave of stagewear the Iowa Nine sported while promoting their 1999 self-titled debut. With Taylor, this has meant once again donning a dread-knotted, leathery-looking second skin.
Turns out Taylor has already made some illuminating modifications to his current mask since the band’s recent “Here Comes the Pain” North American tour. At the group’s Knotfest Brasil performance on Saturday (October 19th), the frontman began staring out into the crowd at São Paulo, Brazil’s Allianz Parque with a set of bright red LED lights flashing out of his eye sockets.
Speaking to the effect, Taylor’s wife, Alicia, confirmed with a fan over X that the singer is wearing “clear round plastic” inserts with red lights inside placed within the eye-opening of the mask. She also likened them to “flexible plastic glasses…almost like those suctions for a shower caddy.”
How Taylor ranks his current mask among the many iterations has yet to be revealed by the singer himself, though he told a fan during a Reddit AMA in 2022 that he was quite partial to the sleek, but stitch-heavy, Nightbreed-inspired mask he wore during the band’s 2021 tour.
