This is not a drill: Converge are officially back.
The iconic, Massachusetts-made hardcore band have ripped out a punishingly speedy song called “Love Is Not Enough,” which also happens to be the name of a new full-length due early next year.
Converge premiered the doomily D-beating song on SiriusXM yesterday (November 18th), but formally brought the tune to the rest of the public today (November 19th) through an evocative, allegorical and wax-dripping music video by George Gallardo Kattah.
As for the track, it’s likewise a heater. It’s loaded with vocalist Jacob Bannon’s pterodactylian screeches, limber-yet-lacerating pull-off riffage from guitarist Kurt Ballou and bassist Nate Newton, and double-barreled beatdowns from drummer Ben Koller.
Bannon noted that the song “explores what it means to remain empathetic and compassionate in the modern world,” and offers “a reckoning with who we are today and hope to be in the future— if we can fend off the scavengers.” You can check it out up above.
It’s added that the band’s next album is loosely themed around “the turmoil of living,” and was produced by Ballou at his God City Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, with engineering assistance from Zach Weekes. Bannon added that the sessions feature no guest musicians, and “no studio trickery.”
“I think that realism is missing from a lot of modern music of any genre, but especially our genre,” Bannon noted. “Things either go super raw and almost chaotic to the point where it’s distracting, or bands take the life out of what they’re doing by editing every aspect.
“Sometimes the perfect take is the one that has some wildness to it. It’s not perfectly executed. There’s a lot of powerful moments on this record and a lot of angry moments. The realism amplifies that.”

As previously reported, Converge will be hosting their inaugural “Saddest Day” festival December 13th at the Roadrunner in Boston, Massachusetts. The event will also feature sets from Touché Amoré, Coalesce, the Hope Conspiracy, Soul Glo, the Year of the Knife, Stress Positions, Wormwood and a “special guest.”
