Industrial-rock veteran Celldweller is set to become a heavy part of the Soul Reaver legacy, having just announced a soundtrack to accompany the fantasy videogame franchise’s forthcoming graphic novel tie-in. Better yet, Trivium metal titan Matt Heafy is also on-board to rage over The Legacy of Kain in a brand-new song.
Celldweller are in the midst of preparing music for Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise, the graphic novel prequel to the Legacy of Kain games that marks the first addition to the lore since 2003’s Legacy of Kain: Defiance game.
The full details have yet to be revealed, but a Kickstarter for the project explains that Celldweller’s soundtrack is set to include an update of Raziel’s Theme (“Ozar Midrashim”) and also a brand-new song that features Trivium vocalist-guitarist Heafy. The soundtrack, which will be pressed up on vinyl, will likewise feature original sound-design tracks with voice-over dialogue from the Legacy of Kain franchise, as well as remastered game scores.
“Respecting a revered franchise like Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is paramount,” Celldweller mastermind Klayton said in a statement. “As we breathe new life into this iconic series, my goal was to ensure that the new music evokes the same mood and atmosphere that fans have cherished, while also offering fresh, innovative elements. It’s a delicate balance of honoring the original and pushing creative boundaries to deliver a Celldweller experience that feels both nostalgic and new.”
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise will come via the recently-founded BitBot Media, the new multimedia company co-founded by Klayton, writer Joshua Viola and FiXT media’s James Rhodes. Their joint venture is set to focus “on the creation of original films, video games, comics, music and merchandise.”
The vinyl version of the soundtrack is being pressed up in a few collectible variants, including Celldweller-signed picture-disc vinyl with art by Ninja Jo. You can find out about the different options and sign up for updates on the project over at Kickstarter.
Celldweller have been involved in a number of soundtrack projects for movies and videogames over the years, including scores for Blade Runner 2049, Westworld, Deadpool 2, Call of Duty: Elite, Assassin’s Creed and more.
