Back in July, Carla Harvey released the debut self-titled EP from her new solo project the Violent Hour. An all-star affair, the record features Zakk Wylde, John 5 and, most of all, Anthrax drummer — and Harvey’s new husband — Charlie Benante, who co-wrote the songs and played every instrument. Today (November 12th), Harvey has teamed with Revolver to premiere the music video for standout cut “Sex and Cigarettes.”
The song is the first that the couple wrote together for the Violent Hour — though, as Benante told Revolver, the music dates back 10-15 years. According to Harvey, “’Sex and Cigarettes’ is “a fun, sexy and a full-throttle riot-grrrl love letter to chaos and chemistry,” and the new video brings that raucous, live-fast attitude to life, portraying Harvey as she raises hell with her bandmates, guitarists Kiana De Leon and Allie Kay, bassist Jewell Steele and drummer Sasha DeLeon.

“For the video, I wanted to capture that energy and the instant camaraderie we had as a band in a modern, Russ Meyer-esque fever dream that turns a simple road trip to a gig into absolute madness,” Harvey tells Revolver. “I enlisted director Nathan Mowery to bring the vision to life. He’s not only a filmmaker but also a wrestler, so I knew he’d nail the finale I imagined. I write all my own video treatments and personally scouted most of the locations — from Circus Liquor to L.A.’s infamous Mustang Motel. Even tracking down that badass red convertible was part of the adventure.
